PHOENIX — On Friday afternoon, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. officially endorsed former President Donald Trump, ending his independent presidential campaign during a detailed speech.
Kennedy’s endorsement was first revealed in a court filing in Pennsylvania before he addressed the audience in Arizona, a key battleground state. Trump has a separate event planned later that day in Glendale, where Kennedy is expected to speak, according to sources familiar with the arrangements—a result of ongoing discussions.
Kennedy, who initially rose to prominence as an environmental lawyer and later became known as a leading anti-vaccine advocate, began his speech by criticizing the Democratic Party, accusing it of “abandoning democracy. He also responded to his critics, claiming they were skeptical of his campaign’s chances of success and alleging that both the media and the Democratic Party worked together to undermine his competitiveness. Ultimately, Kennedy clarified his decision.
“Several months ago, I vowed to the American people that I would step aside if I believed my campaign would act as a spoiler… In my heart, I no longer believe I have a viable path to electoral victory,” he stated.
Kennedy portrayed both himself and Trump as targets of ongoing “legal warfare” initiated by Democrats. He criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for not securing “a single delegate” during her 2020 campaign, accusing her of avoiding the press and neglecting a policy platform in favor of a campaign focused solely on opposing Trump. He also compared the control Biden and Harris exert over the Democratic Party to the autocratic rule of Russia under President Vladimir Putin.
